# Case of PUMA_01 around the bento box project

スポーツとファッションを融合させることでブランドイメージを拡大し、21世紀に入っても常に進化を続けるPUMAから2009年4月25日に新たなコレ クションが発表されました。「Traditional Handicraft (伝統的工芸)」と「Ultra Modern Handicraft (現代産業工芸)」の２つのラインから構成される本コレクションは、古来より当たり前の感覚として日本人に根付く精神性 (＝ものを大切にする心) や日本の素晴らしいカルチャーのひとつである食文化を背景に、現在も発展しつづける日本の伝統工芸を軸に作られたものと、最先端の産業を支える高度な職人 技術の巧みな技を表現した２種類のラインナップです。今回、丸若屋はPUMAプロジェクト初期の技術の選定から商品が店頭に並ぶまで、約1年に渡り職人の 皆様とご一緒しました。各現地での数えきれない体験や作り手の方々の温かい気持ち、そしてPUMAという大きな理解者と共に商品の門出を迎えられた事はこ の上ない丸若屋の財産となりました。

商品群_01「伝統的工芸」 Traditional Handicraft

■ 特注弁当箱「曲げわっぱ」柴田慶信商店作（秋田県・大館市）
今回製作した特注弁当箱は、柴田慶信氏の所有する古くからの貴重な曲げわっぱの収蔵品の中からプロジェクトの主旨に合ったもの選び、作って頂いた復刻製品 がベースとなっています。そこに柴田慶信商店の匠の技を加え、更に進化したオリジナル商品となっています（洗練された技術である蓋の天板の丸みや鱗止めと いう手法等々)。労働者が早く美味しく食する為に考案された木こり弁当箱や一般的に有名な小判型弁当箱とは異なり無骨でシンプルな作りですが、手にしてみ るとその魅力が目と手を通して語り掛けてきます。まさしく日常から生まれた先人の知恵が詰まった御弁当箱です。

□ Specially Made Bento Box “Magewappa”
Made by Shibata Yoshinobu Store, Oodate-shi, Akita-ken. “Mage” = Bending Skills
Puma Japan collaborated with “Magewappa” artisan Yoshinobu Shibata to create this specially made bento box. We started from his archive collection of “Magewappa”, and modified them to develop a new product. The technique is very unique, and one can easily see the difference between a normal bento box shape and this specially made ”Magewappa”. “Magewappa” was born from the wisdom of our predecessors, and it is part of Japanese daily life until this day.
■ 特注箸「栗懐中箸」柏木工房作（長野県・大町市）
柏木圭氏の代表作でもあり2006年より日本民藝館主催の日本民藝館展に入選している「栗懐中箸入れ」。今回はこちらの製品に、更に「金工」という日本が 誇る伝統技術でPUMAロゴを施した特注製品となっています。柏木圭氏の「ものづくり」への哲学が行き渡っているこの製品は、製品であると同時に完成され た作品であり、通常ならば他の技術が加わる事や企業色を反映する事のない一品ですが、今回のプロジェクトの趣旨にご理解頂き例外中の例外として、限定商品 という形で販売が実現しました。

□Specially Made Bamboo Chopsticks and Portable walnut Chopstick Case
Made by Kashiwagi Atelier, Oomachi, Nagano-ken. “Kezuri” = Carving Skills
The portable walnut case is one of Mr. Kashiwagi’s masterpieces and has been accepted for the Japan Folk Arts + Crafts Festival since 2006. Puma Japan made a specially made portable walnut Mobility Chopstick Case with a Puma Cat detail made of gold. Mr. Kashiwagi is a true artist with his own philosophy, and nothing can alter change his style. Puma Japan is very honored to announce this first collaboration with such an artist. We would have never been able to make this brilliant product without Mr.Kashiwagi’s technique and spirit toward craftsmanship.
■ 江戸前「竹林柄 風呂敷」竺仙作（東京都・日本橋）
老舗の扱う柄にはそれぞれ深い意味と守り抜かれた風格が備わっています。それは同時に安易に使用する事は許されないという意も含まれます。今日迄「竺仙」は、お得意様などから別注扱いで技術を反映したオリジナル柄を製造する事は行ってきていますが、あえて今回は仕切りの高い「竺仙柄」を使用する事をご快諾頂き、竹林という大変めでたい柄をあしらい、大きさも曲げわっぱに合わせ、通常より小振りながら、生命力溢れる風呂敷が出来上がりました。

□Specially Made Chikurin Textile “Furoshiki”
Made by Chikusen, Nihon-bashi, Tokyo. “Some”= Dyeing Skills
Any textile manufactured by a long established company has a deep meaning and unique personality, and should be taken seriously. These days Chikusen only does orders made for special customers, and Puma Japan is very pleased to have a collaboration with this honorable company. This is the first time to put a cooperate logo into their original pattern, unchanged since the Edo period. We made this “Furoshiki” smaller than the ordinary size to match the ”Magewappa” bento box. Please enjoy the beauty of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and soul belong to this special made “Furoshiki”, the textile mean Good Luck to everybody.

商品群_02「現代産業工芸」 Ultra Modern

■ 特注弁当箱「絞り弁当箱」北嶋絞製作所作（東京都・大田区）
「へら絞り」という聞き覚えのない技術。まさに職人技といえるこの技術を駆使した特注弁当箱を製作依頼。形状は技術を象徴する球体の三段重であり、日本人 の想像力を具現化した未来を創造させる弁当箱に仕上がりました。３つの円盤それぞれに「へら絞り」を施し、組み合わせた際に真球となる驚異の技術の本製品 は、部品加工を生業とする北嶋製作所にとって初めてとも言える製品製作をお願いしました。また、本製品に対する難易度の高いレーザー刻印技術と表面アルマ イト処理については、日本屈指の技術を誇る新潟県・燕に依頼し実現しました。
■ 特注箸「チタン箸」長谷川挽物製作所作（新潟県・燕市）
技術の伝わる製品、半永久的に使える製品をコンセプトに長谷川挽物製作所が独自開発をしたチタン箸。チタンの特性を熟知したからこそ生まれたこの箸は、ま さに技術の結集と言えるものです。今回の特性チタン箸は従来の商品を元に製作所との話し合いと試作を重ね、従来品では投影しきれなかった技術を全て注ぎ込 んだ製品です。主な特性としては、挽物では困難である「四面取り」、より軽量化を計る為の「中空化」などが挙げられます。コストも時間も通常製品の三倍近 くかけて仕上げた、まさに最高品位のチタン箸となりました。

□ Specially Made Titan Chopsticks Made by Hasegawa Hikimono Manufacture, Tsubame-shi Niigata-ken “Hiki” = Sawing Skills
This Titan Chopstick was developed using Hasegawa Hikimono Manufacture’s original sawing technique. The concept was to create a semi permanent product that can tell a story of a Japanese craftsmanship. The craftsmen put all of their knowledge and skills into these chopsticks, They are true technical and innovative pieces of art. Through this special collaboration, PUMA Japan and Hasegawa Hikimono Manufacture were able to develop an incredibly light weight and semi permanent chopstick based in traditional techniques. The amazingly low weight was achieved by hollowing out the inside of the chopstick by removing the metal, and closing it off again. This requires an incredibly delicate sense and only few artisans can achieve it. This process requires more than 3 times of the production cost and labor required for the regular process. PUMA Japan is very honored to launch the ultra modern titan chopsticks created through this amazing craftsmanship and technology.
■ 特注風呂敷「Phototex風呂敷」織元山口作（山形県・米沢市）
「織物の良さ」と「写真の良さ」。その両方の魅力を持つPhototexという特許技術を使い、山口英夫氏自ら製作の元、日本を代表する風景「東京タワー とその周辺」を陰と陽、昼と夜で表現した織り柄は、まさに日本の中心をイメージさせます。日本の最先端技術から生まれた弁当箱とお箸を包み込む風呂敷とし て素晴らしい織物が仕上がりました。

□ Specially Made ”Phototex Furoshiki”
Made by Yamakuchi Textile Manufacture, Yonezawa, Yamagata-ken “Ori” = Weaving Skills
“Phototex” appeals to people through the quality of the product and beauty of the photographic reproduction. Mr.Yamakuchi collaborated with Puma Japan to create a special “Phototex” Furoshiki, inspired by Tokyo Tower, one of the most popular landscape news of central Tokyo. The monochrome showcase the contrast brightness and shadow and the sun and the moon.This special Furoshiki combines a digital technology with a traditional jacquard weaving skill, and it is made to wrap the ultra modern Bento Box “SHIBORI”and Titan Chopstick.
